There are Several guidelines that I ask our students to follow in order to provide a quality physical education program. These include coming to class prepared in proper attire, demonstrating good listening skills, following directions, showing sincere effort and displaying respect for each other as well as the teacher.
In order to participate safely in physical education class, it is imperative that students attend class prepared with the proper attire. In accordance with school policy clothing consists of: SSPJ t-shirt, navy shorts, sneakers (properly laced or secured with velcro), and socks. During periods of cold weather, SSPJ nylon pants and jacket may be worn over shorts and t-shirt. Skirts, dresses, boots or slip-ons are not acceptable. Additionally No Jewelry is to be worn on PE days and should remain home or in the classroom.
In the event that your child is unable to participate in physical education class for a medical reason, a written note from a parent/guardian is required. However, if your child needs to be excused for more than one week, a doctor’s note is required. This note should should include the duration and reason. Children excused from gym are also excused from recess. A note from the doctor allowing your child to return to physical education class is also required.
6th, 7th, and 8th grade will participate in health twice a month.
While I aim to provide your child with the means and the knowledge to achieve a healthy lifestyle, you are the most influential component to your child becoming a healthy individual for his/her lifetime. As a family try to plan active family outings or set aside time as a family to do something active every day.
Hello, my name is Tabatha DuBois and I’m the Physical Education teacher at Sts. Philip and James School & Academy. I have been teaching various subjects for over ten years and I am excited to concentrate my efforts on Health and Physical Education. I hold a Bachelors in both Physical Education and Health along with a Masters in Sports Sciences.
When I am not at school I enjoy hiking, riding bikes, and watching movies with my husband and three children. I can also be found at the gym training and competing in Strongman competitions.
I look forward to working with your children on how to keep our friends and ourselves safe while being physically active and having fun.
