Hi there! Welcome to our 7th grade ELA website for the 2021-2022 school year! I am eager to begin this journey of faith and knowledge with each one of you.
Both GoogleSites and this school website will be used to keep everyone organized and on top of what is happening inside our classroom.
-Ms. Nocera
This year we will focus on many components of the English language including grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. In addition, reading comprehension, and writing will be strengthened throughout the year.
While working with our four major novels, which can be seen below, many Common Core Standards will be addressed and assessed.
Summer reading: Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick and a book of choice from a teacher-constructed list.
Please email me at the address above or visit our class GoogleSites page for the PDF documents needed to complete this summer reading.
After reviewing the mandatory summer reading, we will begin with our class novels:
We will begin our literature review with The Miracle Worker, a three-act play about the life of Helen Keller by William Gibson.
Next, we will read The Giver, a dystopian novel written by Lois Lowry.
Following this novel will be Fever 1793. This is a novel written by Laurie Halse Anderson.
We will end the year reading The Outsiders, an all-time fan favorite by S.E. Hinton.
With each novel we work with there will be shorter articles, poems, etc. that will be examined and analyzed to help with the understanding of the main piece of literature. Throughout the Unit, you can expect open-ended classroom discussions, quizzes, homework and classroom assignments, as well as creative projects (both partner and individual), as well as a unit test.
