The students of Sts. Philips & James are extremely fortunate to be learning Spanish and Mandarin! On this page, all grades will be able to find helpful materials and websites in order to assist with their Spanish learning. Grades 6-8 have individual pages (accessible through the side bar) with more detailed information from each lesson. 

Four Components of the New York State Common Core Standards for Languages Other Than English (LOTE):

Language, Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing.

The three major goals of learning modern languages are Communication Goals, Cultural Goals, and General Education Goals. Critical thinking, reasoning skills, the synthesis of knowledge, humanistic understanding, social awareness, creativity and self esteem are the foundation of these three goals.

Grades Pre-K through 3

Grades 4 & 5

Please Note:
Repetition in topics is essential in acquiring a foreign language. However as the grades progress, the activities, homework, and expectations are much more rigorous and demanding.
